เนื้อเรื่อง
นักเทนนิสหนุ่มกระเป๋าแห้ง (เรย์ มิลแลนด์) ที่จับได้ว่าเมียเศรษฐีของเขา (เกรซ เคลลี่) แอบไปรักชอบอยู่กับหนุ่มนักเขียน (โรเบิร์ต คัมมิงส์) เขาจัดการวางแผนฆ่าเธอด้วยการแบล๊คเมล์เพื่อนสมัยเรียนคนหนึ่งที่ชื่อสวอนซึ่งมีประวัติไม่ดีนักให้เป็นคนลงมือแทน เพื่อว่าเขาจะได้หาพยานหลักฐานว่าเขาไม่มีส่วนเกี่ยวข้องกับเหตุการณ์ครั้งนี้ ทุกอย่างทำท่าว่าจะเป็นไปด้วยดี จนกระทั่งถึงช่วงฆาตกรลงมือที่เหตุการณ์กลับพลิกผัน
